Buns and Eggs at Easter
26/Mar/2012
Easter is a fantastic time of year – the daffodils are popping up, egg hunts are being organised and if we’re lucky, we might even get a glimpse of the sun!
But of course, our favourite thing about Easter is the food and Britain has some fantastic food-related traditions. Just the mention of Hot Cross Buns conjures up memories of Easter holidays and long breakfasts with family and friends. Being food experts themselves, our traders get as excited about the food at Easter as we do.
Bread Ahead have big plans for Easter weekend. They’ll be cooking up a batch of their Hot Cross Buns which are made with generous helpings of butter and fruit and come with an added spicy kick. They’ll also be offering Simnel Cake, a traditional fruit cake with marzipan that is delicious toasted and eaten with butter.
Easter radishes, which range in colour from white to a deep burgundy purple, will be available from Only Organics. Mix this strong, peppery root veg in a bowl of salted butter for a real taste of Spring!
Of course, Easter wouldn’t be Easter without eggs, both real and chocolate! But how about something in between? Rabot Estate’s Dippy Egg is a perfect recreation of a soft-boiled egg with a creamy white chocolate filling and a milk chocolate soldier for dipping. While it’s probably not a great choice for breakfast, this 40% milk chocolate shelled egg is a beautiful treat for Easter Sunday!
During the Easter period, the Market will open as usual including on Good Friday and all throughout Saturday. So there’s ample time to visit us and pick up your leg of lamb for a classic Easter Sunday Roast.
