At the Demo Kitchen: Stephen Harris

The man behind Michelin-starred pub The Sportsman, in conversation with Luke Mackay

The story of The Sportsman is one that surely leaves even non-foodies’ hearts full—everyone loves an underdog. Stephen Harris, punk rocker turned teacher turned chef-proprietor, bought the place back in 1999, when it was little more than a “grotty rundown pub by the sea”. In 2008, it earned (and has kept) a Michelin star. In 2017 it was crowned the winner of the National Restaurant Awards—followed by further top 100 spots each year subsequently—for its amped up pub grub, made using hyper local ingredients. 

A love for good, local ingredients is something The Sportsman and Borough have in common—and the Market is delighted to announce that on Friday 27th September, Stephen will be joining Luke Mackay to talk all things food (as well as to cook up some delicious dishes) in the Demo Kitchen. The pair will begin the morning with a mooch around the Market to hunt down the brightest and best produce of the day, which will inspire the feast they later whip up in a live cookery demonstration.
