CCTV notice

The Borough Market (Southwark) Trust CCTV notice

Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are in operation 24 hours a day on this site. Video images of you may be recorded.

In limited circumstances body-worn cameras may also be used. These devices may make both video and audio recordings. You will be informed before any such recording takes place.

CCTV cameras are located at entrances and strategic points throughout the Borough Market premises.

CCTV is used for the prevention, investigation and detection of criminal activity and to promote public safety.

Our duty is to ensure your personal safety and security and we are acting in the public interest in maintaining constant recorded surveillance of this site.

The images are recorded centrally and held in a secure location. Access to, and disclosure of, images recorded on CCTV is strictly controlled.

On request, we may share images with the Metropolitan Police and the Borough of Southwark for crime prevention and investigation. Recordings can be used in a court of law.

All CCTV recordings are deleted and overwritten on a recycling basis and are not held for more than 30 days. Images may be retained for a longer period where a law enforcement agency is investigating a crime.

You have the right on request to receive a copy of CCTV images of yourself if you are recognisable from these images but not of those of other people and not if it would prejudice the prevention or detection of crime.

You have the right to request deletion of these recordings, but we may have legal reasons to refuse your request. All requests should be sent to [email protected].

The CCTV system is owned and managed by the Borough Market (Southwark) Trust. Any enquiries or complaints relating to the system should be addressed to [email protected] or by telephone: 020 7407 1002.
