Lunar New Year lion dance

Saturday 21 February 2026, 11am

A TRADITIONAL DANCE TO MARK THE START OF A NEW YEAR

Join us at Borough Market for a traditional lion dance to celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Fire Horse – a year traditionally linked with vitality, movement and fresh beginnings.

Chef Salina Khairunnisa, who runs the Joli stand, joined by Borough Market staff and other traders, will lead the lion dance through the Market, starting at Borough Market Kitchen (Winchester Walk) at 11am.

In many parts of East and Southeast Asia, lion dances are performed at the start of the lunar year to invite good fortune and set a positive tone for the months ahead – a fitting way to step into the energetic spirit of the Year of the Horse.

The Market will be open as usual, and there’s no need to book. Simply come along and enjoy the celebration as part of your visit.
