Filming and photography at Borough Market
Please read our filming and photography policy, and ensure you have the required permission to film and photograph in the Market
Guidance for visitors
Food is beautiful. And we love seeing your photos and videos taken here at the Market. We welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors every week, and ask everyone to adhere to our policy to help ensure that filming and photography are carried out respectfully, fairly and without disruption to the market and its traders.
We ask visitors to:
- Not stand in busy areas or obstruct other visitors.
- Check with stallholders if you’re taking photos or filming at their outlet.
- Engage politely with our security staff, if asked about your photography or filming.
If you obstruct other visitors or our stallholders, you may be asked to move to a different area of the market. Or, in some instances, leave the market altogether.
Permission to photograph and film
Members of the public are welcome to take photos and videos at the Market for personal use. If you’re shooting for personal use, you do not generally need to seek written permission from Borough Market.
We have more detailed guidance about the permissions required, and process of gaining permission, for other types of filming listed below. If you need to request permission, please contact us via the filming enquiry form.
1. Content creators and food reviewers
If you’re producing content for social media, we ask that you record using only a mobile phone and a lapel microphone and operate with no more than a two-person crew (i.e. one presenter and one camera person). You do not need written permission from the Market to film this type of content.
If your crew or equipment exceeds this, or the content is for paid promotional or brand partnership purposes, we define this as professional and/or commercial filming and you will need to complete a request form.
You can also contact our communications team to let us know your plans. This will allow us to help facilitate filming where appropriate and identify possibilities to collaborate. Email our team on [email protected]
2. Personal photography
Personal photography is permitted and does not require written permission. However please be aware that our security teams may stop you to enquire about the purpose of your photography. Long-lensed cameras and tripods are not permitted.
3. Professional film crews and photographers
If your crew exceeds two people, or you are using professional-grade equipment, you will require written permission from the Market. Please complete a request form outlining the purpose of your shoot, crew size, equipment, dates/times, and areas requested with at least 14 days’ notice.
Professional grade equipment includes, but is not limited to:
- Shoulder-mounted cameras
- Tripods and gimbals
- Sound and lighting equipment
- Multiple lenses
- Camera bags
4. Press requests
If you’re filming as part of a news piece, please contact our press office directly on [email protected]
5. Commercial filming and photography
Filming for commercial purposes requires written permission from the Market. Borough Market reserves the right to reject commercial filming proposals and / or apply a fee for commercial and brand-related shoots.
Please complete a request form outlining the purpose of your shoot, crew size, equipment, dates/times, and areas requested with at least 14 days’ notice.
