Working with schools

Teaching children about the journey of their food through hands-on experiences of growing, cooking and selling

Young Marketeers

Delivered in partnership with the brilliant team at School Food Matters, the Young Marketeers programme gives students hands-on experience of food production and trade.

Primary school pupils learn about the environmental and social impact of food, grow their own vegetables, and develop creative ways to market their produce, before setting up a stall and selling it at Borough Market to raise money for charity

Secondary school students take part in a Winter Soup Sale, where they make their own soup and bread (with our traders Bread Ahead), master key skills in health and safety, marketing and logistics, and bring their creations to sell at the Market.

In numbers

Through our ongoing partnership with School Food Matters, we’ve worked with almost 3,000 students, from more than 300 schools across London.

Together, their efforts at the Market sales have raised vital funds for charities close to us, including Plan Zheroes and The Felix Project, funding over 30,000 meals for families in need.

Southwark Young Entrepreneurs

Alongside Southwark Council, we also work with local secondary schools to teach their students invaluable enterprise skills.

The children learn about business plans, marketing and trading standards. They also design their own products to sell at the Market, bringing along everything from scented candles to rings made from recycled wood.
