Borough Market greengrocer teams up with top chef to offer two atmospheric al fresco dining experiences
Borough Market greengrocer Turnips has teamed up with Tomas Lidakevicius, former executive chef of Jason Atherton’s Michelin-starred City Social restaurant, to explore the alchemy that results when a highly skilled, creative chef gets his hands on a near-limitless range of exceptional seasonal fruit and veg.
Launching on Thursday 16th July, their collaboration offers two distinct experiences. The Turnips stand in Three Crown Square is serving up a casual menu of cocktails and small plates, including sweet ‘n’ sour Brittany cauliflower with sesame seeds, fish balls with Sicilian pepper sauce, and pork belly with Corsica peach compote. Meanwhile, under the arches of the Green Market, a pop-up al fresco fine dining restaurant is offering a five-course tasting menu, including prawns with outdoor Provence tomato, 48-hour short rib with Yorkshire beans and peas, and torpedo watermelon with galangal and lemongrass.
“The juxtaposition between fine dining and buzzy market atmosphere is second to none and we’re so excited to be working with Tomas,” says Charlie Foster of Turnips. “The meal I had at City Social when Tomas was in the kitchen was one of the best I’ve ever had and he completely shares our vision of joining the disconnect between market produce and restaurant food.”
Reservations for the fine dining restaurant are available Thursday to Saturday 8-10pm and Sunday 2:30-7pm, and the small plates experience can be booked from Wednesday to Saturday, 7-10:30pm.
